Shannon Dooley as Charity |
BERLIN (February 11th thru March 19th, 2005) – The Connecticut
Cabaret Theatre is pleased to announce its production of the
classic and groovy musical Sweet Charity, directed by Kris
McMurray. Sweet Charity is the first show of the new 2005
Season.
Have you ever known a girl who wanted something so badly, that
she tried too hard to get it? Meet Charity, the girl who wants
to be loved so much, that she has lost sight of who she is.
Charity sings, dances, laughs and cries through romances with
the “animal magnetism” hero, the “ultra-chic continental” hero,
& the “impossible-to believe-but-he’s-better-than-nothing” type
hero. Her world is the
all too real world of Times Square, and the people who pass
through her world are as deceptively charming a group as ever
swept across any stage. Every character is interesting. This is
a bright and sophisticated show in every sense. Wonderful
musical numbers include Big Spender,Dream Baby Dream, I’m The
Bravest Individual & the famous If My Friends Cold See Me Now!
Starring in the title role of “Charity Hope Valentine” is the
beautiful and powerful Shannon Dooley. She’s petite and
gorgeous, but don’t let that fool you, for she has a voice that
will knock your socks off. Shannon debuted at the CT Cabaret in
last season’s “Singin’ In The Rain” as the diva villain, Lina
Lamont. The Cabaret is thrilled to have her back again and will
be sure you will fall in love with her in this role.

Shannon Dooley, Gina
Robbins, Susan Lavery |
Playing the roles of her two best friends “Nickie” and “Helene”
are the equally beautiful and talented Gina Robbins and Susan
Lavery respectively. Each sing and dance alongside Charity,
dreaming dreams and pushing each other along, as rough as it may
be. Gina is gracing the Cabaret stage again after playing such
roles as “Cleo” in The Most Happy Fella and “Kathy Selden” in
Singin’ In The Rain. Susan has been in many productions at the
CT Cabaret including Singin’ In the Rain, Annie Get Your Gun and
in Fiddler on the Roof as “Chava”. Look to see Susan in the
starring role of “Sally Bowles” in the CT Cabaret’s season
closer, Cabaret.
Matthew Marrero stars in the show as the uncertain, handsome and
high-strung love interest to Charity, Oscar Lindquist. Matthew
is no stranger to the stage, starring in such roles as “Hero” in
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, “Herman” in The
Most Happy Fella and most recently as “Cosmo Brown” in Singin’
in the Rain. As Oscar, Matthew is sure to get a laugh.
Other key players in the show include
George Lombardo playing
the role of the debonair foreign film star “Vittorio Vidal” and
Fred Desimini playing the role of “Herman”, the manager of the
dance hall.
