BERLIN – The Connecticut Cabaret
Theatre is pleased to announce its production of the classic and
fun Neil Simon and Burt Bacharach musical, “Promises, Promises”,
directed by Kris McMurray.
Based on the motion picture “The Apartment”, “Promises,
Promises” is the story of a nice guy in a world where niceness
goes un-noticed and un-rewarded. Chuck Baxter, originally played
in the 1968 Broadway production by the late-great, Jerry Orbach,
wants to be a romantic figure, and yet girls can’t seem to
remember his name. Chuck wants a promotion in his Manhattan
Insurance office and the head of personnel is oblivious. That
is, until certain executives notice Chuck not for his skills,
but for his apartment. There’s a trade off, promotion for Chuck
for some alone time in Chuck’s apartment with their mistresses.
But are promises broken or promises kept? Find out in this wacky
and wonderful musical featuring such famous tunes as “I’ll Never
Fall in Love Again”, Turkey Lurkey Time”, and the title song,
“Promises, Promises”, plus many, many more.
Starring in the lead role of Chuck is Matthew Marrero who
despite his youth is no stranger to the stage. Matthew’s comic
timing and charming nature lend well on the stage, as well as
doubling as choreographer for the show. Matthew’s other leading
roles have included Barry Bochman in “Hello Madduh, Hello Fadduh”,
Herman in “The Most Happy Fella” and most recently Eugene Morris
Jerome in “Biloxi Blues”

Matthew Marrero and the
beautiful Jeanne Caillouette |
Starring as Chuck’s love interest that doesn’t seem to notice
him is Jeanne Caillouette as Fran Kubelik. Jeanne is a veteran
at the Cabaret and has a voice as clear as crystal. Her and
Matthew make a strong performing couple in this musical. Jeanne
has been seen in many shows including “Carousel” as Julie
Jordan, “The Most Happy Fella” as Rosabella, and “No Way To
Treat a Lady” as Sarah.
Co-starring as the personnel manager that creates the “love
triangle”, Mr. Sheldrake is Tom Roohr. Tom adds a spark to the
show with his comical ways and baritone voice. Tom has been seen
in many shows including “Private Lives”, “Annie Get Your Gun” as
Buffalo Bill, and most recently as Sergeant Toomey in “Biloxi
Blues”. Fred Desimini also co-star as the nosey and yet fatherly
Doctor Dreyfuss, with a big booming voice and sarcastic streak.
Fred has been seen in many shows such as “The Most Happy Fella”
as Tony, “Nunsense-Amen” as Mother Superior, and “Sugarbabies”
as The Top Banana.
The show consists of a large and energetic cast of characters,
dancers, and singers. Cheats, liars and drunks. All surrounded
by this fun Burt Bacharach score and book by funny-man Neil
Simon. Don’t miss this one. You’ll leave humming a few tunes and
we promise that you’ll want to keep your “Promises, Promises”.
