September 2005
September winds down the summer, but
not the stage ! This month's musical calendar is once again full
with an unprecedented 15 Musicals on Connecticut's stages .
September offers a unique blend of shows; the
rarely staged Chess, cult-status Nunsense,
instantly classic Company, and crowd pleasing Gypsy
offer a glimpse at the broad scope of quality stage shows this
month.
The always- impressive
Montage Theater,
under Randy Ronco's masterful direction, will produce that
quintessential musical - Company! Count on Montage to
stage some of the finest voices and talent available in the
state, including TheatreLives favorite;
Kristin Leigh Chabot ! Montage
Theater's production of Company will run 09/29-10/01 &
10/06-10/08 & 10/13-10/15, and tickets are on sale early -
sells-outs are anticipated. This production is strongly recommended !!! -> Go
to this one!!
Great voices are truly on the stages of
Connecticut this month, the Manchester
Musical Players annual Cabaret
will be at Cheney Hall on Sept 9th and 10th. Among the talent
will be 'the voice' -
Chris Stone. Chris was awarded
the LTM's
Best Actor in a Musical as
well as LTM's
Performer of the Year.
Chris has a superior singing voice as well as technique.
Thomaston Opera House will stage
Chess. This musical has some of the most tantalizingly
beautiful and wonderful songs to be found. An all-too rarely
staged production, Chess is clearly worth the trip.
Near cult-status musical comedy;
Nunsense will be presented by the Opera House Players (formerly
St. Martha's Players)
Traveling road shows will see the
Bushnell's My
Fair Lady give way to Menopause later in the month.
Menopause will also visit the Schubert for a day.
New musical productions will include
the Spirit of Broadway's After the Fall and later in the
month the hilarious Baby. The Spirit of Broadway is an
intimate three sided black-box. I'm always impressed with how
well director/producer Brett A. Bernardini stages his
productions - he's yet another star behind the best of
Connecticut's Musical stages. Goodspeed- Norma Terris's
Amour run's until the 4th. For
TheatreLives regular Keno to give it his
recommendation - Amour Must be good.
Best Bet: Montage's Company.
Worth the Risk: Chess at
Thomaston Opera House
