November 2005
November opens with an unusual midwestern musical, Floyd and
Clea under the Western Sky. The award winning Little Theatre of
Manchester, hard put to equal last years blockbuster Jekyll and
Hyde, is staging the ubiquitous musical; The Music Man. I'm sure
they will do a superlative job with the popular show.
Connecticut Cabaret is running "Promises, Promises" the Cabaret
is a safe bet for a quality night out - nice location and great
seats (no bad views).
Best Bet: The Bricusse
Scrooge - is a great version with beautiful music. Thomaston is a great
setting for this show - I think it will be a perfect fit. It's a
treat just to sit in the historic Thomaston. Wonderful 'feel' to
the place. (message to TOH: sell soda CANS at intermission, lose
the cup thing real fast)
Worth the Risk:
,
Floyd and Clea under the Western Sky has some great
reviews from past showings in Chicago.
Traveling Road Shows will see Maureen McGovern in Little
Women, This show has been getting great reviews and press,
McGovern is in her element. When was the last time you were in
New Haven? Visit the Shubert and enjoy this great
show. The Will Rogers Follies will be at the Garde.
The
Garde Arts Center is one of Connecticut's Gems and
is a must-see for any theatre fan.
Do Not Miss:
The rarely staged
Man
of La Mancha will run briefly at the beautiful Warner
Theatre in Torrington. The Warner is a truly spectacular
sight, and seeing La Mancha amidst it's Deco splendor will be a
real treat. The Warner bills itself as "Connecticut's Most
Beautiful Theatre", and they are rightfully proud of the
restoration. Warner Is beautiful, but... to paraphrase the old
and recently new stars, brothers Grimm "O Lady
Queen, though fair ye be, Waterbury's Palace is fairer
far to see." Yes, the Palace IS Connecticut Most
beautiful Theatre - without a close 2nd. The Warner would be
classed along with New London's Garde - a wonderful theatre, no
doubt, Well Worth ANY trip - a Must see for Connecticut Theatre
Buffs. Give yourself a treat - see La Mancha at the Warner.
