July 2005
July has a spectacular range of musicals playing in
Connecticut. Gilbert and Sullivan fan's will be thrilled to see
that the acclaimed River Rep is producing
The Mikado at the
Ivoryton Playhouse;
Summer allows the fun of outdoor theatre; Richter's great
production of
Into the Woods will close early this month, followed by
Phantom - the other Phantom that is - this is not
the Webber version. Some people have mentioned that they prefer
the music of this production - I plan to find out - watching
Phantom outdoors should be a great summer experience - the night
of the 22nd will have a full moon rising towards the end of the
show!
Thomaston's Oklahoma features a highly talented TL regular
"Maddie" in the cast, be sure to check out her ongoing
"Oklahoma Rehearsal Diary", it's sure to add another
dimension to your enjoying this great show - I personally will
not miss it.
Best Bet: River Rep's Mikado holds promise. If you
haven't seen a G&S show - this one is a great entry to the
genre.
Worth the Risk: For a unique experience, get
outside for a night - Phantom should be just the
ticket to assure that your summer has some theatre flavor to it,
Thomaston's
Oklahoma is a known crowd pleaser...and seeing it in a
classic turn of the century Opera house is a rare treat -
take a ride, see
some beautiful parts of Connecticut and experience the
Thomaston Opera House!... you Won't be disappointed!
(did you know - Thomaston took it's name
from
the famed clock maker Seth Thomas)
