Best Bet:
Opera House Players "I do, I do" An intimate and nostalgic work
by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, the authors of "The Fantasticks."
The show traces a couples life over a period of 50 years, from
their wedding day until they leave their house to the next pair
of newlyweds. In that time we watch them go through their
wedding night jitters, raise a family, negotiate mid-life
crises, quarrel, separate, reconcile and grow old together. With
direction by Meghan Maki and musical direction by Amy Crawford,
along with leads Carl Calhoun & Mona Tiglio, this is sure to be
a great show. The added pleasure of visiting the classic
Broadbrook Playhouse makes this a hands-down winner.
Worth the Risk: Brookfield Playhouse's "Assassins"
runs through the 30th. While a somber topic, Sondheim's music
and treatment of the subject is worth the show. Brookfield
features great and consistent talent. Bordering two of
Connecticut's large and scenic lakes; Candlewood and Lillinonah;
visiting Brookfield is worth a nice weekend drive. When calling
for tickets be sure to inquire about their dinner-deal featuring
Bailey's Backyard American Bistro. Great price, great food,
great show. For those wondering, Lillinonah is named after an
Indian princess, daughter of Chief Waramaug. I'm guessing it's
nothing but a legend with bits of fact to further confuse the
issue, but apparently she fell in love with a settler she had
nursed to health. When he failed to return from a journey, her
father arranged her marriage to a tribal member. Lillinonah
paddled her canoe and was seen going over the falls by her lover
who was returning. He leapt to join her and both died in the
falls - together forever as the story goes. I think it's a nice
name for a lake and the name is probably a Native American name
from the New England tribes. As to the story, it seems as though
you can hardly find a waterfall in Connecticut that isn't the
subject of a leap for unrequited love.

many reasons why Connecticut and her superlative Theatres are so
unique, Yes - we have the legends, the ghosts and the mysterys.
So, are you ready to go see Assassins in Brookfield yet?
